If the functional groups are readily accessible, chemical interactions can easily arise, thus destabilising the originally stable emulsion. The silicone oil, which can cause stains on the fabric, is degenerated.
In order to avoid that the amino-terminal groups have been replaced by the more stable amido-groups in the functional side chains.
